Members of the South Australian fly fishing team, visitors from Victoria and guests from the Maltese Fly Fishing team spent a competitive weekend on the Broughton River.
Team Malta comprises the smallest international team of anglers in the world and the newest members of Fips Mouche, the international body for fly fishers.
More than half the competitors at the weekend of May 15-16, had represented Australia in international fly fishing competitions.
Teams enjoyed lunch on Jeff and Carol Matter’s Spalding property and were grateful to local residents who supported the event as controllers and fish measurers.
Visitors said it was a most successful fishing competition with every competitor catching at least three fish, even the team Malta member who found the conditions difficult.
Team Malta presented the Matters with an exclusive bottle of imported Maltese Liqueur made from the Island’s endemic prickly pair population.
The Maltese team will be competing in Poland in four weeks time for the World Fly Fishing Championships.
